MD Editor - Privacy Policy
MD Editor · Last updated: 18 June 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how MD Editor ("we", "us", "the app") handles your data. MD Editor is an iOS Markdown editor. Your documents are always stored locally on your device.
What we collect
- Your documents — Markdown files you create or open are stored on your device only. If you enable iCloud in Settings, iOS syncs them through your personal iCloud account. We never see the content of your files.
- Advertising identifier (IDFA) — If you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), your in-app activity, and data about ads you have seen may be used to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites for the purpose of showing you personalised ads via Google Mobile Ads. If you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised and no cross-app tracking occurs.
- Ad-related data — The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect technical data (device type, OS version) and your IP address — which is used to infer your approximate location — to serve and measure ads. It also collects data about how you interact with ads (such as impressions and taps) and your in-app activity for ad targeting purposes. In the EU and EEA this only happens after you give consent through the in-app consent screen.
- Crash and performance data — If the app crashes, anonymous diagnostic information may be shared with Apple through its standard crash-reporting system. This never includes your document content.
Advertising and consent
MD Editor is free and supported by ads. Ads are served by Google Mobile Ads.
- ATT (App Tracking Transparency) — On first launch iOS asks whether you allow tracking across apps and websites. Your answer controls whether personalised ads are shown. You can change this later in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- GDPR / EU users — If you are in the EU or EEA, a consent form appears before any ad is requested. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time via MD Editor → Settings → Privacy Options.
- Remove Ads — Purchasing the "Remove Ads" in-app purchase disables all advertising. No ad-related data is collected after that purchase.
How we use your data
- To provide the editor and sync your files across your devices via iCloud.
- To serve ads and, with your consent, to personalise them.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the stability and performance of the app.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your documents with anyone. Data is shared only with the following parties, each of whom is required to protect your data in accordance with applicable privacy law and to provide at least equivalent safeguards to those described in this policy:
- Apple — iCloud sync and crash reporting, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Google — Ad serving via Google Mobile Ads, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. This sharing only occurs after consent is granted where legally required.
Data retention and deletion
Your documents live on your device and in your own iCloud account. You control them entirely: delete a file in the app, or delete the app, and the data is gone. We hold no copy of your documents on our servers.
Ad-related data retained by Google is governed by Google's own data retention policies. To review or request deletion of data Google holds about you, visit Google's Data & Privacy settings.
Children's privacy
MD Editor is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app's features change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any revision. Significant changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
